How to get to Ha Long?

It is 180 km from Hanoi capital to Ha Long, with quite good road condition. You can choose among 4 most popular ways to here:

+ Train: At present, the Halong Express tourist train from Gia Lam station been With the price of about 5 USD/way for Vietnamese tourists and 15 USD / way for foreign visitors, this train will take you to Ha Long with travel time of about 5 hours.

+ Coach: Currently, in all bus stations in Hanoi such as My Dinh, Nuoc Ngam, Giap Bat, etc., there are passenger buses to Ha Long. The ticket price for seats is VND 100,000 and for the sleeping seat is VND 200,000. It may take about 3 hours.

+ Private shuttle bus: This can be easily booked via the website or a local travel agency. Service provides will be willing to offer free pick-up at your place. Most of the drivers have a sufficient command of English, and Wi-Fi access and phone charger plugs are available in the bus as well.

+ Motorbike: If you choose to ride a motorbike on your own, the shortest way from Hanoi to Halong will be 155 km long and take about 3 hours.

Due to these mountains, the beaches are much safer, calmer and shallower than others in Halong Bay. Magnificent caves and grottoes in Halong Bay

Sung Sot Cave (Cave of amazement)

Hang Trong and Trinh Nu Cave (Man and Woman cave)

Located on two wings of a small mountain east of the Bo Hon island range, about 3km southeast from the Sung Sot cave, the two caves are separated by a small water area of 700-800m. The two caves get its name from it shape: each one has stones that shape like a lying women and the other has a stalactite that looks like a giant man.

Cua Van is one of the most famous fishing villages in the region. Ba Hang fishing village

A lesser-touched fishing village is Ba Hang (Three caves) fishing village. As the village is situated near Dau Go islands, Thien Cung cave – the two famous places, visitors to Ba Hang village can experience the life of fishermen and see the idyllic beauty of mountains, water at the same time.

Located right in the center of Halong city at the height of 200 meters, Bai Tho Mountain is where you can have broad overview of Halong. On the way up the mountain, you may see a herd of free-range goats or birds fluttering down the Bay, so remember to bring a camera with a full battery to capture all those moments.

Note: It’s quite difficult to find the road to Bai Tho Mountain. My suggestion is go straight to Le Thanh Tong, turn to Hang Pot Street, find Nam Phong cafe and ask people to get the most accurate instructions.

Sun Wheel Halong and The Queen Cable car

The Queen Cable car connects Bai Chay beach to the top of Ba Deo hill is the only way to reach Sun World amusement park. The cable car has been recognized by Guinness Record to have the highest passenger capacity in a cabin (230 passengers) and the tallest cable car tower (188,88 meters). Specialties in Ha Long Bay

Sa sung (peanut worm – a sea creature)
Van Don is famous for having the best quality and largest peanut worms – those that live in the sandy beaches here. The locals have various ways of cooking this specialty: stir-fried peanut worms, sweet and sour peanut worms, peanut worms with kohrabi, with chilli,… If you have a chance to come here, don’t forget to buy some peanuts home as gifts.

Ca say Tien Yen

Ngan

Ngan has an outer appearance similar to that of a clam, but it has blacker shell, thicker body body, and waved structure. They live in the mud on the island edge. For the raw ngan, first you should wash mud their shell, then let them sit in a pot for 2-3 hours to release all the dirt. When it comes to cooking, ngan can be boiled, grilled, cooked with spinach or other veggies or simmer with porridge. Especially, the ngan alcohol is also a specialty of Quang Ninh only, which makes it even more special as a gift home.

Xoi trang cha muc (Sticky rice and chopped squid paste)

Xoi, the dish cooled from young glutinous rice, eat with fried chopped squid paste and fish sauce with pepper is the ultimate combination. Each portion of this dish might cost from 15,000 to 25,000 VND. In addition, you can buy chopped grilled squid paste only at the price of about 250,000 VND/ kg.

Seafood noodles
